Packaging Evils

Since getting my bonus a few weeks ago, I’ve been buying a few things over the internet and I just have to say that blister packs (those plastic clamshell, heat-sealed, boxes that hang on retail shelves) and packing popcorn are two of the most evil things invented by man.

Blister packs are a pain to open, if you can even figure out how to open them. Most of the time I just end up cutting them open and praying that I don’t slash my hands in the process. At least someone was kind enough to invent a $5 solution for this evil. Got one of these things a couple of weeks ago.

Then there is the most evil thing of all, packing popcorn. You make a mess getting your product out of the box, then you make a mess trying to get the popcorn into a more trash can friendly garbage bag, then you make a mess trying to get it all into the trash can. Don’t even try this in a light breeze or your yard ends up covered in pink plastic poop. All this technology and no one can make self-destructing packing popcorn.

I Don’t Get It

So why is it that when you push the “credit” button on the credit machine that the checkout person still asks if you want debit or credit??? Drives me crazy, whats the point of me pushing the button if I still have to verbally answer the question. Who designed this system? Does pushing the button have no real function other than to make sure I know what I want before the checkout person asks me? Conspiracies abound.

Update: Same thing goes for calling customer service, punching your account number into the voice mail system, and then having the customer service person ask you for the information you just punched in!

Copy Protected CD BS …. Again!

I can’t believe its now the latest Dave Matthews CD that has copy protection crap on it, which means one cannot easily rip MP3s from it. This is total BS. I buy over a hundred CDs a year and even believe that people who download music for free is stealing music. I simply want to put the CD on my MP3 player and it should be protected under fair use. Anyway, a simple Google search gave me the instructions on how to get around the copy protection.

Update: good news, you can skip the instructions in the link above, just hold the shift key while inserting the CD into the computer and keep holding until the CD spins up. This will bypass the copy protection junk and allow ripping.
