Jailbreak!!

Over the weekend, Miles and Milo conspired to break out of the house for some fun outside. They took off at 11:30 pm and since they are nearly black I really couldn’t see where they went. Luckily, they came back meowing at the back door around 3 am. In my worried state I imaged a comic strip to describe the jailbreak (amazing what you can do with Powerpoint). Click on the picture for a bigger version.

If You Didn’t Know Already…..

…..don’t put your baby in a plastic storage container, especially with the lid on! Sticker was actually on a storage bin I just bought.

CD Review - Antigone Rising / From The Ground Up

This is the debut album from the all female group, Antigone Rising, which features a largely live acoustic set of roots and folksy rock (but mostly rock). The songs are well written and the live set really brings out the energy that these guys can convey to their audience. Antigone Rising (beats me how it suppose to be pronounced, I read somewhere its not pronounced how its spelled) got a lot press as they were the first artist to have their CD released through Starbucks (yes, that Starbucks). Go check this out for some straight up gutsy rock.

The New Napster

Wow, looks like things are getting interesting over at Napster. After being nearly sued out of existance a few years ago, they re-launched as a totally legal all you can download subscription service. You can keep the downloads as long as you keep on paying the monthly subscription fee, cancel the subscription and your downloads get locked.

But thats not the interesting part. Just today, Napster started a free, ad-supported streaming service that lets you listen to songs and albums on demand. Thats right, you pick the songs you want to hear and its streamed to you. You get ads with the pop-up player, but I can totally live with that since its free. Wonder how Rhapsody will respond? I’m getting ready to cancel my subscription.

Milo Watches TV

First of all, this is not a posed pictured. Milo is actually watching the TV and didn’t just happen to sit in front of the screen. He follows the movement of the Lions and Leopards that were on this Discovery HD documentary and once tried to jump into the screen. He also kept looking behind the screen trying to figure out where the animals were coming from. I’ve caught Milo watching TV a few times now. He’s a big fan of the Discovery HD and likes the animal documentaries the most, but he’ll watch the nature docs as well. I’m not sure if its the HD picture that he likes, cause he never really looks at the standard def stuff, but that could be due to the lack of animals on the standard def channels I watch. Looks like I’ve been teaching him some bad habits as I spend way too much time watching TV.

ACCIDENTES!!!

Got into an accident? Want to sue? Speak spanish? Have a hard time remembering phone numbers? Need a suave, mustachioed lawyer that secretly wants to be on a spanish soap opera? Then this is your man!

I’ve seen this billboards around LA for a while now, but I was finally in position to snap a pic yesterday.

East West - Rachel’s Silence

It seems that East West, the band I used to play in during the mid-90s, is no longer together. So in honor of East West and for those diehard fans searching for it, I’ve posted MP3s of Rachel’s Silence, the album I produced with the band, on my website. For those of you that don’t know about East West you might want to turn down the volume or cover you ears when playing the MP3s. Check out the East West website from 1997.

Got Cat Food

I think my new cats are gonna eat me into the poor house. They currently consume 3 to 4 cans of food a day, which means they need about 120 cans a month, which is how many cans are in the picture. So of course what goes in one end…..

Finding New Music

Here’s my favorite chain of websites that I use to find and track down new music.

Pandora - Signup here for a new account and populate a playlist with some of your favorite artists and songs. From there Pandora will start playing songs that are like the artists and songs you put in your playlist. It may take some time to train Pandora, but it’ll be worth the effort.

Rhapsody - Once you find a new artist you like, go over to Rhapsody to find more music from the artist. Rhapsody is a subscription service, but you get on demand streaming access to a lot of albums and artists.

Artist Direct
- Find out more about your new discovery, Artist Direct has quick bios and discographies. You can even purchase CDs at Artist Direct, though I prefer to buy my CDs elesewhere.

Google - Search for the artist on Google, you’ll most likely get the artist’s webpage right away, this is a good place to buy stuff directly from artist. If the artist is independently producing their own music, the artist’s webpage might be the only place to get it. Also a lot webpages will stream or allow you to download the artist’s music.

CD Universe - I miss the old CD Now, before they were bought out by Amazon, but CD Universe is pretty close. CD Universe has some stuff that Amazon doesn’t and is focused on selling music, movies and games.

CD Baby - A great place to buy truely indie stuff. CD Baby will have stuff not found anywhere else.
